An associate professor of poetry at Columbia College Chicago, CM Burroughs was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and earned a BA from Sweet Briar College and an MFA from the University of Pittsburgh. Her debut collection, The Vital System (Tupelo Press, 2012), was followed by Master Suffering (Tupelo Press, 2021), which was longlisted for the National Book Award in Poetry and named a finalist for both the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the Lambda Literary Award. She has received fellowships and grants from Yaddo, MacDowell, the Djerassi Foundation, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Cave Canem.
