Born in Egypt, Hedy Habra holds four graduate degrees from Western Michigan University. They are an MA and MFA in English, an MA and PhD in Spanish literature. She writes poetry and fiction in French, Spanish and English, and has published criticism in Spanish on Mario Vargas Llosa. All four of her collections come from Press 53 — Tea in Heliopolis, which took a USA Best Book Award in 2014, Under Brushstrokes, The Taste of the Earth, and Or Did You Ever See The Other Side?, winner of an International Book Award in 2024. She paints in Chinese ink brush.
