Susan Black Allen is a psychotherapist in San Diego. She published her debut collection, The Best Sex I Never Had: Secrets & Solace of a Psychotherapist, with Legacy Publications in 2025. Its poems work in free verse and in more traditional structures, taking up nature, sex and relationships, pets, her losses, and moments of pleasure. Her essays and poems on mental health and parenting have appeared in The Boston Sunday Globe Magazine and The San Diego Poetry Annual, and through the non-profit This Is My Brave, for which she performed in Boston in 2015. She has read as a featured poet at POETS, Inc. in Escondido.
