Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Tayi Tibble is a Māori poet of Ngāti Porou and Te Whānau-ā-Apanui descent. She completed an MA in creative writing at the International Institute of Modern Letters at Victoria University of Wellington in 2017, receiving the Adam Foundation Prize in Creative Writing. Her debut collection, Poūkahangatus (Victoria University Press, 2018), won the Jessie Mackay Best First Book Award for Poetry at the 2019 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Her second collection, Rangikura, appeared from Victoria University Press in 2021 and was shortlisted for the Mary and Peter Biggs Award for Poetry.
