Thomas Lux (1946–2017) was born in Northampton, Massachusetts, and attended Emerson College and the University of Iowa. He served as poet in residence at Emerson from 1972 to 1975, taught for many years at Sarah Lawrence College, and was a member of the Warren Wilson MFA program faculty before becoming the Bourne Professor of Poetry at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His collections include Memory's Handgrenade (Pym-Randall, 1972), Split Horizon (Houghton Mifflin, 1994), for which he received the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award, and New and Selected Poems, 1975–1995 (Houghton Mifflin, 1997). He received a Guggenheim Fellowship and three grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
