A British-American classicist and translator, Emily Wilson is professor of classical studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Her 2017 translation of Homer's Odyssey (W. W. Norton) was the first complete rendering of the poem into English verse by a woman; she preserved the original line count and worked in iambic pentameter. Her translation of the Iliad followed in 2023 and won the 2024 Audie Award for Best Literary Fiction and Classics. She has also translated tragedies by Euripides and Seneca. Educated at Oxford and Yale, she received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2019.
