Founding editor of the independent press Black Ocean and its journal Handsome, Janaka Stucky is an American poet and performer. He is a two-time National Haiku Champion and the author of four poetry collections: Your Name Is the Only Freedom (Brave Men Press, 2009), The World Will Deny It For You (Ahsahta Press, 2012), The Truth Is We Are Perfect (Third Man Books, 2015), and Ascend Ascend (Third Man Books, 2019). His poems have appeared in Denver Quarterly, Fence, and North American Review. He founded Black Ocean in 2004 with Carrie Olivia Adams and Susan McCarty.
