The 19th Poet Laureate of the United States, Natasha Trethewey served two terms from 2012 to 2014. She was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, and earned a BA from the University of Georgia, an MA from Hollins University, and an MFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Native Guard (Houghton Mifflin, 2006) won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 2007. Her other collections include Thrall (Houghton Mifflin, 2012) and Monument: Poems New and Selected (Houghton Mifflin, 2018). She is Board of Trustees Professor of English at Northwestern University.
