He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. About Robert Burns

Robert Burns (1759–1796) had no schooling beyond a village school his father helped establish. He added a season of mathematics at Kirkoswald and tutoring at home. Born at Alloway, near Ayr, to William Burnes, a gardener turned tenant farmer, and Agnes Brown, he farmed, wrote, and later took work as an excise officer at Dumfries, where he died aged thirty-seven. Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect, printed at Kilmarnock by John Wilson in 1786 in 612 copies taken by subscription, made his name, and an enlarged Edinburgh edition followed from William Creech. He contributed some three hundred and thirty songs to The Scots Musical Museum and further songs to A Select Collection of Original Scottish Airs.
