About Carolyn Forché

Born in Detroit on April 28, 1950, Carolyn Forché studied at Michigan State University and earned an MFA from Bowling Green State University and a PhD from Newcastle University. A poet, memoirist, translator, and editor, she is the author of Gathering the Tribes (Yale University Press, 1976), selected for the Yale Series of Younger Poets; The Country Between Us (HarperCollins, 1982); The Angel of History (HarperCollins, 1994), winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Award; and In the Lateness of the World (Penguin, 2020), a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and winner of the American Book Award. She edited Against Forgetting: Twentieth-Century Poetry of Witness (W. W. Norton, 1993). In 2017 she received a Windham-Campbell Prize. Forché serves as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.
