Publishing as J. D. Harris, John D. Harris gathered roughly three decades of intermittent work into fishes: a book of poetry. He also wrote Faustbook, a narrative poem in five acts retelling the Faust legend with a contemporary reading. His translations and annotated editions include a prose rendition of The Epic of Gilgamesh drawn from Akkadian, Sumerian, Babylonian, and Hittite sources, and an annotated edition of Christopher Marlowe's The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus. His other work includes retellings of the Gawain tales and the love stories of Marie de France.
