About Alicia Cook

Based in Newark, New Jersey, Alicia Cook is a poet and essayist who works in addiction-awareness advocacy. Her collections are structured as mixtapes, pairing original poems with blackout-poetry remixes drawn from the same texts. Her debut, Stuff I've Been Feeling Lately (self-published 2016; Andrews McMeel, 2017), was a Goodreads Choice Award finalist. Subsequent collections from Andrews McMeel include I Hope My Voice Doesn't Skip (2018), Sorry I Haven't Texted You Back (2020), and The Music Was Just Getting Good (2024). She won the 2026 Central Avenue Poetry Prize for her poem "The Squirrel Made His Way."
