The Ireland Chair of Poetry was established in 1998 following the award of the Nobel Prize for Literature to Seamus Heaney and is supported by Queen's University Belfast, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and the Arts Council Án Chomhairle Ealaion. Other poets in the series include Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, John Montague, Paul Durcan, Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill, Michael Longley, Harry Clifton, and Paula Meehan.

About Paul Muldoon

Born in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, and educated at Queen's University, Belfast, Paul Muldoon is the author of many collections, including Joy in Service on Rue Tagore (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2024), Howdie-Skelp (Faber & Faber, 2021), and Moy Sand and Gravel (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2002), which won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1990, the T. S. Eliot Prize in 1994, and the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 2017. Muldoon served as poetry editor of The New Yorker from 2007 to 2017 and as Oxford Professor of Poetry from 1999 to 2004. He is Howard G. B. Clark '21 Professor in the Humanities at Princeton University.
