About Cathy Linh Che

A Vietnamese American writer and multidisciplinary artist, Cathy Linh Che earned a BA from Reed College and an MFA from New York University. Her debut collection, Split (Alice James Books, 2014), won the Norma Farber First Book Award from the Poetry Society of America and the Creative Writing: Poetry Book Award from the Association for Asian American Studies. Her second collection, Becoming Ghost (Washington Square Press, 2025), a finalist for the National Book Award in Poetry, uses persona and the golden shovel form. Her parents were Vietnam War refugees who later appeared as extras in Apocalypse Now. Che serves as executive director of Kundiman and has received fellowships from MacDowell, among others.
