About the poet: Ted Kooser
Ted Kooser (born 1939, Ames, Iowa) is an American poet who served as Poet Laureate of the United States from 2004 to 2006 and whose quiet, plainspoken verse about the rural American Midwest has made him one of the most accessible and beloved contemporary American poets. His collection Delights & Shadows (Copper Canyon Press, 2004) won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 2005. For many years he worked as a life insurance executive while writing poetry before and after work, and his career is often cited as evidence that poetry can flourish outside of academia. He is a distinguished professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
