About Mahogany L. Browne

Executive director of the Bowery Poetry Club and inaugural poet-in-residence at Lincoln Center, Mahogany L. Browne holds an MFA in writing and activism from Pratt Institute. Her collection Chrome Valley (W. W. Norton, 2023) won the 2024 Paterson Poetry Prize, and her young-adult novel A Bird in the Air Means We Can Still Breathe (Crown Books for Young Readers, 2026) was longlisted for the 2025 National Book Award for Young People's Literature. Earlier books include I Remember Death By Its Proximity to What I Love (Haymarket Books, 2021) and Kissing Caskets (YesYes Books, 2017). She founded Penmanship Books and the Woke Baby Book Fair, with fellowships from Cave Canem and the Rauschenberg Foundation supporting her writing.
