About J Patrick Lewis

A poet for children, J. Patrick Lewis spent his working life teaching economics. He earned a BA at Saint Joseph's College, an MA at Indiana University and a PhD in economics at Ohio State. He taught in the department of business, accounting and economics at Otterbein College until 1998, when he turned to writing full time. The Poetry Foundation named him the third Children's Poet Laureate, a post he held from 2011 to 2013. He compiled the two National Geographic anthologies offered here, the Book of Animal Poetry and the Book of Nature Poetry, and has won a Golden Kite Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
