Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Theodor Seuss Geisel (1904-1991), known as Dr. Seuss, was an American writer and illustrator born in Springfield, Massachusetts, celebrated for verse children's books. He attended Dartmouth College, where he edited the humor magazine Jack-O-Lantern, and later studied at Oxford. His first children's book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street (1937), launched a career that produced classics including The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, Horton Hears a Who!, The Lorax, and Green Eggs and Ham. In 1984 he received a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation "for his special contribution over nearly half a century to the education and enjoyment of America's children and their parents." Geisel died in La Jolla, California.
