About Kwame Alexander

Kwame Alexander writes for children and young adults, largely in verse. He won the 2015 Newbery Medal for The Crossover, a novel in verse. The Undefeated, a picture book illustrated by Kadir Nelson, brought him a Newbery Honor in 2020; his two Coretta Scott King recognitions, in 2015 and 2025, are both Author Honors. He edited This Is the Honey: An Anthology of Contemporary Black Poets, which won the 2025 NAACP Image Award for poetry. He founded the imprint Versify, produced the Disney+ adaptation of The Crossover, an Emmy winner in 2023, and contributes to NPR's Morning Edition.
