About Sara Teasdale

Sara Teasdale (1884–1933) was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Her collection Love Songs (Macmillan, 1917) received the 1918 Columbia University Poetry Society Prize, the award that became the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, making her its first recipient. She also won the Poetry Society of America Prize for the same volume. Her other collections include Rivers to the Sea (Macmillan, 1915), Flame and Shadow (Macmillan, 1920), and Strange Victory (Macmillan, 1933), published after her death by suicide. She wrote in traditional forms throughout her career.
