-: Autumn: -

A touch of cold in the Autumn night

I walked abroad,

And saw the ruddy moon lean over a hedge

Like a red-faced farmer.

I did not stop to speak, but nodded,

And round about were the wistful stars

With white faces like town children.

About T.E. Hulme

An English critic, aesthetician, and poet, T.E. Hulme (1883–1917) was born in Endon, Staffordshire, and helped found the Imagist movement before being killed in action during the First World War. Though often credited to Ezra Pound, Imagism owed much to Hulme's formulation of its central ideas. Pound appended five of his poems to Ripostes (1912) under the heading "The Complete Poetical Works of T.E. Hulme," a gesture frequently read as Imagism's formal debut. Hulme published very little verse during his lifetime. He also engaged in philosophical and political controversy, defending militarism against the pacifism of Bertrand Russell.
