About Reginald Shepherd

Reginald Shepherd (1963–2008) was born in New York City and raised in the Bronx. A 1988 graduate of Bennington College, he earned MFA degrees from Brown University and the University of Iowa in 1991 and 1993. His first collection, Some Are Drowning (University of Pittsburgh Press, 1994), received the Associated Writing Programs' Award in Poetry, chosen by Carolyn Forché. Four more collections followed from the same press: Otherhood (2003), a finalist for the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, and Fata Morgana (2007), winner of a Silver Medal in the Florida Book Awards. A Guggenheim Fellow, Shepherd taught at Northern Illinois University, Cornell University, and the University of West Florida before his death in Pensacola.
