About Naomi Shihab Nye

A poet of Palestinian-American heritage born in St. Louis, Missouri, Naomi Shihab Nye has served as the Poetry Foundation's Young People's Poet Laureate and as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Her collections from BOA Editions include Fuel (1998) and The Tiny Journalist (2019). 19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East (Greenwillow, 2002) was a finalist for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature. She has received four Pushcart Prizes, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the Witter Bynner Prize, along with awards for her writing for young readers.
